Proof of Humanity UBI Token
UBI is a continuously-streaming ERC-20 token distributed to every human verified on the Proof of Humanity registry, a decentralized Sybil-resistant identity system co-created by Kleros and Democracy Earth Foundation. Verified humans accrue 1 UBI/hour (about 720 UBI/month) that they can claim to an Ethereum wallet indefinitely, as long as their humanity status remains valid. Launched in 2021 as the first application built on Proof of Humanity, the UBI token's market value has collapsed to near zero, though the underlying identity registry (now Proof of Humanity V2, on Gnosis Chain) remains actively maintained by Kleros as of 2026. The token distribution component itself shows minimal trading activity and is economically marginal.

Verified humans accrue UBI tokens at a rate of 1 UBI per hour (approximately 720 UBI/month), streamed continuously rather than paid in discrete installments; holders manually claim/withdraw accrued tokens to their Ethereum address at any time. There is no cap on total lifetime accrual as long as verification remains valid. As of 2026 the token trades at a fraction of a cent with very low liquidity/volume (on-chain market cap roughly $16,000 per Etherscan, April 2026 data), making the real-world value of accrued tokens negligible.

Open globally to any individual who successfully registers on the Proof of Humanity registry: submitting a video and profile, being vouched for by already-verified humans, and surviving a challenge period during which anyone can dispute the registration (resolved via Kleros arbitration/jurors). No income, geographic, or demographic eligibility restrictions beyond passing human verification.
Application Process

Applicants register at proofofhumanity.id (now v2.proofofhumanity.id): they connect an Ethereum-compatible wallet, submit a profile with a name, photo, and short video, and lock a refundable deposit. An existing verified human must vouch for the new registrant. The submission then enters a challenge period (originally on Ethereum mainnet, now on Gnosis Chain for PoH V2) during which anyone can dispute the registration as fraudulent/duplicate; unchallenged or successfully defended profiles are added to the registry. Once registered/verified, the address becomes eligible to accrue the separate UBI ERC-20 token via the Democracy Earth-built UBI smart contract.
- Selection process
No selection beyond passing the Proof of Humanity verification process: community vouching plus a public challenge period. Disputed/challenged submissions are adjudicated by randomly selected, staked Kleros jurors who vote on whether the profile represents a genuine unique human; the losing side (challenger or submitter) loses their deposit.
