Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR)
Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR) was the Malaysian federal government's national cash transfer program for low- and middle-income (B40/M40) households, single adults, and senior citizens, administered by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) on behalf of the Ministry of Finance. It succeeded the earlier Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH, 2019-2020) and Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN, 2020) cash-aid schemes and ran as an annual, means-tested cash handout funded entirely from the federal budget. Payments were tiered by household income and number of children, with extra top-ups ("BPR Tambahan") added under the 2021 PEMULIH COVID-19 recovery package. BPR itself was discontinued after 2021, with its role taken over by Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM, 2022) and then Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR, 2023-present).

Payment amounts were tiered by monthly household income and number of children: households earning <=RM2,500 received RM1,200 (1 child) or RM1,800 (2+ children); RM2,501-RM4,000 households received RM800/RM1,200; RM4,001-RM5,000 households received RM500/RM750; eligible single individuals received a flat RM350. In mid-2021, the government added 'BPR Tambahan' top-ups under the PEMULIH stimulus: RM500 for households earning <RM2,500, RM300 for households earning RM2,501-RM5,000, RM100 for eligible singles, and RM100 for senior citizens (60+) who are single, widowed, or single parents earning <RM5,000. Existing BSH 2020 / BPN 2.0 recipients did not need to reapply; payments were disbursed in multiple phases (first payout, Tambahan payout, second payout) across 2021.

Application Process
- How to apply
Applicants applied online during the official application window (15 Jan - 15 Feb 2021) via the BPR portal (bpr.hasil.gov.my/permohonanbpr.aspx) by entering personal details, uploading up to 3 supporting documents (e.g., marriage/divorce/death certificates), and optionally naming a representative (wakil). Applicants could also submit a printed application form in person at LHDNM branches, Pusat Khidmat Hasil (PKH), or Pusat Transformasi Bandar (UTC) offices. Prior BSH 2020 or BPN 2.0 recipients did not need to reapply and only needed to update changed details.
- Selection process
Eligibility and payout tier were determined automatically from income and household data on file with LHDN/the Ministry of Finance (cross-checked against tax and BSH/BPN records); new applicants' declared household income and dependents were verified by LHDN before approval and category assignment.
