National $100,000 Cash Grant

Impact Regions
Guyana

Guyana's Ministry of Finance distributes a one-off G$100,000 (about US$480) cash grant to every Guyanese citizen aged 18 and older, funded directly by the country's oil revenue via the Natural Resource Fund. First announced in October 2024 (initially structured as a G$200,000 per-household grant before being converted to a per-adult grant to avoid excluding young people and multi-family households), a second nationwide round of the same G$100,000 grant began in March 2026. Recipients register in person or through an online portal, verify identity with a national ID, digital ID, or passport, and receive funds via bank transfer, cheque, or cash. The program is entirely government-funded with no application fee, means test, or income requirement.

Benefit details

The grant began as a proposed G$200,000 (~US$955) per-household one-off payment announced by President Irfaan Ali in October 2024, but was converted before rollout into a G$100,000 (~US$478-500) per-adult-citizen grant after criticism that the household model would exclude young adults and create intra-household disputes over who could claim the money. Distribution in the 2024/2025 round used cheques, direct bank transfers, and cash collected in person, processed with the Bank of Guyana and commercial banks such as GBTI. A second round in 2026 opened with a dedicated online self-registration portal (cashgrant.gov.gy), with bank transfer as the primary channel and cheques issued to those without bank accounts, especially in remote regions like Region 9. Overseas-based Guyanese are eligible only if physically present in Guyana to register and collect; the grant cannot be paid abroad or claimed by proxy.

Eligibility

Overview

Eligibility details

Open to all Guyanese citizens aged 18 and older as of a set cutoff date each round (January 1, 2024 for the first round; February 28, 2026 for the second round), regardless of income, employment, or residency duration. Applicants must present a valid national ID card, digital ID card, or Guyana passport. There is no means test, asset test, or targeting by household composition; it functions as a near-universal adult cash transfer funded by oil wealth.

Application Process

How to apply

Citizens self-register online at the government portal (cashgrant.gov.gy, also referenced as cg.gov.gy) by submitting personal and ID details, or register in person at designated distribution/registration centres (including regional offices and, for central government employees, through their employing agency). Applicants must have a valid Guyanese national ID card, digital ID, or passport and, ideally, a bank account at a local commercial bank (Demerara Bank, Republic Bank, GBTI, or Scotiabank Guyana) for direct transfer; those without a bank account can still receive the grant via cheque or cash. A national help desk (telephone 501-5085 / 503-2977) assists with registration issues.

Selection process

There is no competitive selection; every citizen who meets the age and citizenship criteria and completes identity verification is approved automatically. Verification is a simple administrative check of ID and citizenship records rather than a discretionary review.
